Soup is a universal food where it is the same in every country. Please share your favorites and whether you make it yourself, or prefer a can or packet.
My boyfriend’s family likes to make soup and chili with sugar in it. I’m personally not a big fan of it and it honestly makes me kind of sick. I’m not sure if it’s a Midwest kinda thing or what, because I’m from the south and we don’t do that there, haha. Anyway, do any of you like, make, or buy sweet soups?
To be honest that sounds strange to me, adding sugar, but canned soups do have sugar in them. As much as I love soup, I like good bread to go with it too, usually some ciabatta or a spinach bagel.
I often add a little bit of sugar to a soup, especially if it’s made with a tomato base. I learned years ago to always put a splash of vinegar, a small handful of brown sugar, and a little salt in any soup. The acid-sugar-salt combination often helps to bring the flavour into balance, but I don’t use enough sugar that it would make the broth itself taste sweet.
