Week Four – Thoughts And Fears

Sunday March 6, 2016. The First Sunday of the month. There were three inserts in the Sunday paper.

So did I cave and go buy this weeks Sunday newspaper? Yes I did. And was I happy with the coupons? No I was not. This is another week that the coupons sucked. I have really got to start looking for a preview before I buy them from now on out.

I feel like I am wasting money or just providing my friends with free coupons because there are none I want so I get none in return. Sure there was good coupons for shampoo but I have more than enough, about the only ones I will use will be for the no more tangle spray for my hair but I am going to have it cut so I really wont need that anymore.

I swear I am coming to the conclusion that it is time for me to stop buying inserts/ Sunday papers for a long time.

Some say that it takes three weeks, twenty one days to break an addiction, I am guessing that I am getting used to not shopping with coupons so the addiction is fading.

For the most part I am just buying fresh produce and cheap at Aldi`s grocery store and Meats for Tony at the new pic n Save they are cheap! ( was piggly wiggly) and there are no coupons for those items, except the butterball ground turkey.

From me growing and canning more food I am coming to realize that I can manage again without coupons and shopping. But I will add that I needed help and coupons was sent to me buy God when I asked him for help, I didnt just need food I needed everything at the time, when I began to use coupons for everything. I do have a small stockpile of goods that I am using daily.

I think its time for a new chapter in my life and that is going back to my roots and grow my own and make my own. So I need to close this chapter with coupons, or maybe set it aside and let it rest for a while, till the stockpile is used up.

Minimalism, talk the talk so walk the walk.

What do you think?

Week Two – Thoughts And Fears

Here we go, another Sunday passed and I did not go get the Sunday newspapers, means no new coupons.

I did do a preview and I was just not interested in any of them, not even one coupon. The printer is out of ink so I cannot look to print.

Is this another week of cold turkey and no coupon shopping? Only buying fresh fruits!

Not exactly…..

I do look at all the sales ads each week for the grocery stores that I shop and many weeks I don`t see anything I want or need to stock, but this week is a week I can actually use something that is on sale at a buy one get one free deal AND apply a coupon for that double savings AND I have coupons that are still good for another week!

What was the big need to stock up on while on sale? Dog food and Toilet paper, I will always till the day I die have to use toilet paper and lets face it the dogs are the kids and no one would starve a kid, now would ya?!

So the deal on the dog food is Purina Dog chow at $5.69 each on sale buy one get one free, per four and one half pounds.I bought four bags and I used one $1.00 manufacturer coupon for each, making the deal $1.85 each. So I paid around $7.38 for all four bags and that`s eighteen pounds.

The toilet paper was quilted Northern $4.99 each on sale buy one get one free.I bought four packages of nine double rolls and I used one .55 manufacturer coupon for each, making the deal $1.95 each. So I paid around $7.78 for four nine packs or thirty six rolls of toilet paper, that averages out to around.22 per roll.

Total before sale and coupons was $44.82

I paid : $15.16
Taxes : $2.14
Total : $17.30

Not to bad, better than full price and it was something that I was nearly out of 🙂

.24 Toaster Strudels And free Olives

I know I have spoiled myself with NEVER paying full price. I clip those coupons and look for the sales each week. No it does not take my whole day. I work and I have a homestead to take care of Plus two dogs.
My store of choice is Publix and for fresh produce I do not grow yet I go to Aldi`s .
A couple weeks ago Publix had Toaster strudels ( $2.48 each box ) on sale buy one get one free making them $1.24 each and you know that was the same week that a Manufacturer coupon came out for .50 off one came out. My publix doubles coupons so that .50 turned into $1.00 making them .24 each box. BUT when I got there they were sold out! They gave me a rain check and I used it today. I got seven boxes for $1.68 …. thats right, I practically stole them.
Next I had printed the Lindsay olive coupon $4.99 , you know those fancy kind. They are $4.59 so that coupon gave me FREE olives and .40 to spend 🙂
Its Bisquick time! ( $3.83 each )It is on sale buy one get one free $1.91 each this week and I had that printed  Manufacturer coupon from coupons . com for .50 that doubled to $1.00 . Under $1.00 ! Bam !
And the Minute rice is not on sale but I get lazy and I can microwave this so I got three packs at $1.99 and used .50 Manufacturer coupon that doubled to $1.00 making each just .99!
Then I blew my cheap deal away when I bought a head of cauliflower for $3.99.
But my total before coupons and sale was $44.96 and all I paid was $9.67 ( no sales tax added ). Now that is how I like to shop and stock with coupons. Next year I will grow my own cauliflower that is for sure.
I have not sat down with the coupons to match up with the deals of the week as of yet. But I know Diet Pepsi is on sale at CVS drug store three for nine dollars and thats the cheapest so far this week.
Do you use coupons? Do you get free foods all the time?
