Travel Planning. Africa or Antarctica? Choose!

Making travel plans?

Australia has been eliminated from your vacation choices.  You must choose between two continents that begin with the letter “A”.

Bet you’d pick the one without massive blocks of ice which has a very large Indian community and great food!  🙂

They say people are no longer reading the hard copy newspapers. Yeah? Evidently, nobody told folks in Austin, Texas, because people still subscribe and want the paper delivered to their front door.  One of my children works for a newspaper company. In addition to bringing home the Sunday edition of the Austin American-Statesman, our local paper, occasionally we get a copy of the New York Times.

In the Travel section of the New York Times for Oct 25, 2015, editors chose to shine the spotlight on Africa. After reading an article I thought to myself: ‘Uh oh! It looks like two posts shared at my Food Ways blog (shared below) could use some additional details or explanation.’ 🙂

It turns out that in Durban, South Africa, curry is comfort food.

Another fascinating fact to go with that?

It also turns out that Durban boasts one of the world’s largest Indian communities.

Of course, there was also a full page advertisement devoted to vacationing in the Florida Keys and Key West.  No surprise.  One of my most popular blog posts published in 2015 on this blog was about the Keys.

Back on point.  This Oct 2015 issue of the New York Times Travel section was amazing. If one were making a bucket list of “Places to Visit or to See”, one entire page of the list could be wholly devoted to exploring the continent of Africa. Sadly, it almost seems that if you wanted to check out these places you could only spend 2 or 3 days at each location. Well because you would have to have time in your life to visit other parts of the world, not in Africa, that are surely on your list as well. 🙂

Practically every part of planet earth is on my imaginary bucket list, with the exception of Antarctica. Sorry. Never learned how to swim. No way I’ll try to tackle an iceberg!  🙂  Although?  Perhaps it would be kind of cool to see the Blood Falls in Antarctica.  🙂
